We take it, forget about it and then wonder next day why we didnt lose weight.</p>
<p>For most of us dieting is a constant battle between emotion and reason and when hungry, reason is out of the window and emotion just wins. We do not see the immediate effects of our behavior and therefore our brain is fooled into thinking that everything is all right. On the other hand, lets say you would get very sick when eating more than you need, overeating would stop very quickly.</p>
<p>Getting sick after a little bit of overeating does normally not happen therefore we need to find a different way to show the consequences of our behavior. We need to show this in a factual manner, an immediate visual display of the results of our cheating. It is not punishment right away, but over time our brain will be conditioned such that taking an extra piece of pie will give negative weight loss results. Then we will start to understand why we dont lose weight and can pinpoint the causes.</p>
<p>What should this visual display look like?  First I like charts, they are very easy to understand and can show trends and correlations between variables. In this chart I would like to see over a period of time, the average calories that I take in per day compared with the average calories that I burn per day. If the chart shows that the intake calories are lower than the burned calories, I will lose weight and vice versa I will gain weight. Correlate that with a chart that shows your weight or BMI (Body Mass Index) over time and I have the tool that helps me regulate my food consumption versus my daily activities. </p>
<p>If I add my hunger levels before and after the meals, I can fine tune my meal plans and daily activities. In this way I can sustain my dieting for a long time and preferably it will become my way of life. I have minimized the hunger pain and increase the pleasure of losing weight and feeling more attractive. </p>

Nor is a simple calorie calculator that tries to calculate your calories burned solely based on your weight and average activity level. <p>Only when you seriously can track and correlate your calorie intake and calories burned over time, depending on your age, weight, gender, height and individual activity intensity levels can you precisely measure your calorie balance. Seeing visually that your weight loss program works is a big motivator to stay on track. Also you can see immediately when you are off track and you can adjust your situation accordingly.</p>

<p>The body absorbs cholesterol, a fatty substance in foods, and this is transferred from the liver to different tissues to be stored as fats. They are carried in the bloodstream by a molecule called Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL). When LDL gets oxidized, they react with cholesterol and a waxy fat substance called plaque is deposited on the walls of the arteries, which results in the stopping of blood flow, high blood pressure and cardio-vascular diseases.</p>
<p>Vitamin E helps prevent the conversion of cholesterol into plaque, and this is done by alpha-tocopherol, not any other form of vitamin E, because liver places it preferentially in the bloodstream through a protein called alpha-tocopherol transfer protein.</p>
<p>The effect of vitamin E in preventing cancer has not conclusively been established. According to a study by The American Association of Cancer Research, reduced risk of cancer is associated with an intake of vitamin E-rich foods. Contradictorily, a study done by Iowa Womens Health Study finds little evidence that vitamin E has protective effect against breast cancer in women after menopause. Hence, researchers have noted that not just vitamin E alone, but foods rich in antioxidants may be able to protect from cancer.</p>
<p>Numerous studies have established the effect of vitamin E in protecting the skin from ultraviolet radiation, whose harmful effects include photodermatitis, an allergic type reaction to the UV rays of the sun. Vitamin E, whether taken through foods or applied topically, has been shown to protect skin cell membranes.</p>
<p>Besides these benefits, vitamin E may protect from Alzheimers, cataracts (clouding of the lens of the eyes), and pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). Also, vitamin E may be beneficial in healing wounds and burns, reducing scars. The property of combating oxidative stress may be useful for athletes, as their oxygen utilization rate is higher than those not doing exercise, which results in increased generation of free radicals.</p>
<p>Without proper conclusions from studies, it would be premature to opt for supplements without the advice of medical practitioner. However, it is generally recommended to take several servings of vegetables and fruits that are rich in antioxidants.</p>

<p>Vitamin B complex, which includes 11 different B vitamins, contributes to the health of the nervous system. It is beneficial for medication overuse, alcoholism or recovery from a serious illness. B vitamins assist in reducing the effects of stress and support the adrenal glands. They aid in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins and are essential for the health of your skin, hair, eyes, mouth and liver. </p>

But a shortage of Vitamin B6 can also cause a type of anemia because this vitamin is vital to the healthy generation of hemoglobin in the blood of a normal, healthy person. You may also associate Vitamin B6 with sugar diabetes, and thats because one of the important functions of this vitamin is to regulate the amount of sugar in the blood. </p>
<p>Vitamin B6 is also known as pyridoxine. You may not have heard of many people who were found to have a serious Vitamin B6 deficiency, and theres a good reason for that. B6 is so readily available in so many foods that its a fairly simple matter to get your daily recommended allowances of this vitamin. </p>
<p>Some of the common sources of B6 include tuna, roast beef, tomato juice, trout, pork loin and peanut butter. Naturally, cereals that are fortified with vitamins are excellent sources and many provide 100 percent of the bodys need for cereal. Three raw bananas also provide a full days supply of the necessary Vitamin B6. A medium baked potato (including the potato skin) provides about one-third of the daily requirement. Evaluating the foods rich in this vitamin reveals that many people are already meeting the daily requirements for B6. </p>
<p>So what are the dangers of having too little Vitamin B6 in your daily diet? Recent studies suggest that a lack of this vitamin is a factor for determining the risk of stroke and some types of heart disease. That means that people with deficiencies are more likely to suffer from these health issues than their counterparts who are getting sufficient amounts of Vitamin B6. </p>
<p>Depression is another problem potentially impacted by a Vitamin B6 deficiency. Though there may be some difference of opinion as to the role and the importance of B6 and depression, there appears to be a link that cant be denied. In fact, depression is listed by some as one of the symptoms of insufficient Vitamin B6 in the diet. </p>
<p>There are some risks of taking too much B6. Nerves  especially in the outer extremities  are sometimes damaged by overdosing the body on vitamin B6. In the majority of cases, simply eliminating any vitamin supplements appears to eliminate the nerve problems as well. Its unlikely that a normal person can take in enough Vitamin B6 from a normal diet to cause toxicity at this level, and more likely that these severe effects of too much B6 are caused by taking too many vitamin supplements containing B6.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Weve seen statistics that prove we are a fat nation. An appropriate question to ask at this time is why did we, who are just as equal as everyone else, become the size that we are? It would be too easy to answer by saying that we ate too much. That might actually be a symptom of the main problem.</p>
<p>The short answer would be that the main causes of obesity have to do with genetics, our living and eating environments, and our psychology. The combination of these influences has nurtured each one of us to become exactly who we are at this moment. But I dont want to venture into these topics, because weve probably been hearing about them for nearly a decade. Instead, lets discuss an influence that we need to take a closer look atbig business in America.</p>
<p>Before fast food corporations introduce new products, they do some market research. This means they will ask questions of the public, perhaps something like this, If we started dipping the whole cinnamon bun in icing rather than just icing the top, would you buy more of them? The answer might be yes. If enough people say yes, the corporation will have somebody make this product so people can try it and give their opinions. If enough people like it, a new product is born. </p>
<p>I believe the people involved in the market research did answer the questions truthfully. For instance, if I were to take a bite out of a fully iced cinnamon bun, and if I were asked whether it tasted good, how could I say anything but its the best? But if they asked me whether I would like one delivered to my house at exactly 7:00 AM every morning, I would realize that my compulsive self could not tolerate the daily temptation. To protect myself, I would have to say, with authority, NO, I NEVER WANT TO SEE ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE THINGS AS LONG AS I LIVE!</p>
<p>Corporations are always throwing new foods at us. That is why Wendys, McDonalds, Round Table and KFC all have special items on their menus, like spicy calamari or dipping sauces for pizza strips. If the items sell well, then they must have done a good marketing job, and the item might become a regular on the menu. They suggest that the world try their new item, and we eat it up. What happened to eating what we want? Is it that hard for us to pick something out for ourselves rather than relying on the nutrition geniuses atop the corporate marketing buildings of fast food restaurants? They would sell us lard burgers if they thought we would eat them, and they might even laugh at us. Why not laugh at them instead? Choose to be healthy and dance to the beat of your own drum.</p>
<p>If you feel at all sorry for these American fast food corporations, let me ask you this question. Which is more familiar to you: The McDonalds logo, or the logo of the USDA (the government body that created the food pyramid)? I rest my case.</p>

When it comes to losing weight, make sure your plate is piled high with a range of colourful fruit and vegetables. Youll naturally create more balance and health-filled menus.</p>
<p>Why? Colour not only brightens your mood  but also your diet. Load your plate with fruit and veges like a box of crayons in colours such as red, yellow, orange, blue, purple, white and green and youll also be filling up on power packed phytonutrients. Phytonutrients are naturally occurring chemicals which combat disease, including cancer.</p>
<p>Go easy on the beige and brown foods such as pasta and startchy carbs. When there are too many of these drab colours on your plate, weight gain is almost certain. That&#8217;s because these beige foods often are high in calories and can leave you feeling hungry later. A cup of beige or brown beans can be over 200 calories&#8230;.but a cup of red or green vegetables is under a hundred! Add fresh greens, deep purple-reds and bright yellow-orange to a meal, and water the nutrient content go up, while calories go down! <p>According to Dr David Heber, M.D., Ph.D. and author of What Color Is Your Diet the key to designing your colourful diet is to choose from a range of different colour groups:</p>
<p>Blue/purple fruits and vegetables contain varying amounts of health-promoting phytochemicals such as anthocyanins and phenolics. Choose from a range including blueberries, blackberries, eggplant, plums, raisins. These assist in memory function.</p>
<p><b>Green group</b> includes broccoli; Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and bok choi. These foods stimulate the genes in your liver to turn on the production of enzymes that break down the cancer-causing chemicals in the body.</p>
<p>The <b>yellow/green group</b> includes green peas, avocado and honeydew melon. These promote eye health.</p>
<p>The <b>yellow/orange group</b> includes carrots, mangoes, apricots, rock melon and pumpkin. These contain carotenoids (beta carotene is one), fierce antioxidants that help prevent cancer and assist to lower heart-attack risk.</p>
<p>The <b>white group</b> includes bananas, white peaches, cauliflower, garlic, ginger, mushrooms and are helpful to maintain heart health.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have many friends in the past few years that have decided to become vegetarians. I saw friend after friend jump onto the bandwagon that being a vegetarian had become, and I&#8217;ll admit that I almost jumped on the wagon myself without giving the choice much thought.</p>
<p>After nearly two months of research and some pretty serious self-evaluation, I decided to become a vegetarian. There is no part of me that is against people deciding that being a vegetarian is right for them. My only frustration is that too often people make that choice without taking even a moment to think about the reasons why or the consequences that being a vegetarian will have on their lives.</p>
<p>So, my advice to you is simple and probably obvious. You only have one life to live, one body to live in, and a few short years in which to experience all of life that you can. So do not make the decision to become a vegetarian lightly or without thought. I would hate to see anyone commit to such a decision out of ignorance and then deal with the consequences long afterward.</p>
<p>One of the best ways to make a good decision about becoming a vegetarian is to inform yourself. Talk to objective people who have decided both for and against choosing a vegetarian lifestyle for themselves. Go to your local library or to a health food store and find literature on the ins and outs of actual vegetarian living. Learn the reasons why people choose to become vegetarians and see if your reasons measure up. The internet is another amazing resource that can help you make a wise and informed decision for you, your health needs, and your lifestyle.</p>
<p>Know that if you do decide to become a vegetarian, it will affect your life in many ways. Obviously, it will affect the foods you choose to eat and prepare. Don&#8217;t forget, however, how it will affect your ability to eat out at restaurants or to eat food that your friends and family prepare. Consider too, the costs of becoming a vegetarian. Depending on where you live and what kinds of foods are available, becoming a vegetarian can either save you or cost you a lot of money. So proceed with caution.</p>
<p>I have loved my experience of being a vegetarian. I felt like my reasons for changing my lifestyle were valid and I knew I could incorporate the things that being a vegetarian required quite easily into my lifestyle. You must make those same decisions for you.</p>
