But a shortage of Vitamin B6 can also cause a type of anemia because this vitamin is vital to the healthy generation of hemoglobin in the blood of a normal, healthy person. You may also associate Vitamin B6 with sugar diabetes, and thats because one of the important functions of this vitamin is to regulate the amount of sugar in the blood. </p>
<p>Vitamin B6 is also known as pyridoxine. You may not have heard of many people who were found to have a serious Vitamin B6 deficiency, and theres a good reason for that. B6 is so readily available in so many foods that its a fairly simple matter to get your daily recommended allowances of this vitamin. </p>
<p>Some of the common sources of B6 include tuna, roast beef, tomato juice, trout, pork loin and peanut butter. Naturally, cereals that are fortified with vitamins are excellent sources and many provide 100 percent of the bodys need for cereal. Three raw bananas also provide a full days supply of the necessary Vitamin B6. A medium baked potato (including the potato skin) provides about one-third of the daily requirement. Evaluating the foods rich in this vitamin reveals that many people are already meeting the daily requirements for B6. </p>
<p>So what are the dangers of having too little Vitamin B6 in your daily diet? Recent studies suggest that a lack of this vitamin is a factor for determining the risk of stroke and some types of heart disease. That means that people with deficiencies are more likely to suffer from these health issues than their counterparts who are getting sufficient amounts of Vitamin B6. </p>
<p>Depression is another problem potentially impacted by a Vitamin B6 deficiency. Though there may be some difference of opinion as to the role and the importance of B6 and depression, there appears to be a link that cant be denied. In fact, depression is listed by some as one of the symptoms of insufficient Vitamin B6 in the diet. </p>
<p>There are some risks of taking too much B6. Nerves  especially in the outer extremities  are sometimes damaged by overdosing the body on vitamin B6. In the majority of cases, simply eliminating any vitamin supplements appears to eliminate the nerve problems as well. Its unlikely that a normal person can take in enough Vitamin B6 from a normal diet to cause toxicity at this level, and more likely that these severe effects of too much B6 are caused by taking too many vitamin supplements containing B6.</p>

Sometimes just understanding you arent able to handle a stressful situation or are not emotionally adapt at recovering from a relationship gone sour is enough to understand where depression begins. </p>
<p>Within the varying degrees of suffrage due to depression the extremes can be mind-boggling. There are people that cannot get out of bed or produce one happy or hopeful thought for months at a time. These episodes debilitate your social life and can even erode your personal life. If there are spouses, children, or parents who care about the person that suffers they can be directly or indirectly affected by the depression also. </p>
<p>Then there are the people that grow more than melancholy on occasion. Perhaps your life is merely temporarily off track, too many responsibilities have been laid at your feet, or you have experienced a devastating loss. These are elements that can cause a mild depression. And though it is not a depression that ceases all activities in your life that does not mean it should be taken lightly or ignored. </p>
<p>In order to eliminate or control stressful or depressing elements you must first recognize them as such. Awareness is one step, admitting you are depressed is another step and those two are difficult. Learning how to get your type of depression under control is the most difficult step of all. You must commit all energies toward healing. If you don feel capable then please engage a loved one to commit on your behalf. </p>
<p>It is possible to gain control of depression without medication. But if medication is required there should always be well thought out considerations of how medications will integrate into your life. You should always weigh the good and not so good aspects of being medicated. If you are a young parent or have serious obligations that need strict attention no matter the time of day, these are things you have to communicate with the professional that prescribes medication.</p>
<p>If you are not functioning in society at any level due to your depression then obviously medical intervention and prescription medicines are something you have to consider. If you only have periodic bouts of depression perhaps a more subtle approach will serve you well.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One man is scaling each continent&#8217;s tallest mountain to heighten global awareness of depression.</p>
<p>Twenty years after the suicide death of his father, mountain climber Joe Lawson formed Expedition Hope to help raise awareness of depression and the risks of letting the illness go untreated.</p>
<p>Lawson&#8217;s father battled depression his entire life, until he decided to put an end to his suffering when Joe was just 16 years old. After struggling to understand his father&#8217;s suicide, Lawson developed an interest in mountain climbing and has since traveled the world in search of new adventures and personal challenges. One of these personal challenges includes Lawson&#8217;s attempt to climb the highest mountain on each of the seven continents.</p>
<p>Up to 19 million Americans suffer from depressive disorders, including major depression. Although it is one of the most frequently seen psychiatric disorders in the primary-care setting, it often goes undiagnosed or is under-treated. This may be because depressed patients often discuss their physical symptoms rather than emotional complaints. In fact, in one study about 70 percent of patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) presented with only physical complaints. Pain is present in approximately 45 to 75 percent of patients with MDD, and can include headache, back, shoulder and abdominal pain.</p>
<p>&#8220;My father&#8217;s depression left him feeling isolated and estranged, making it hard for him to seek help and talk about his condition,&#8221; said Lawson. &#8220;Had he had the proper treatment, his life might have been saved.&#8221;</p>
<p>With the help of Eli Lilly and Company, Lawson began his journey last May by climbing Alaska&#8217;s Mt. McKinley, the highest peak in North America. However, after injuring his knee while on the mountain, Lawson had to turn back. Instead of giving up, Lawson went on to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, in September 2005, and Mt. Kosciusko, the highest peak in Australia, in November 2005.</p>
<p>&#8220;Like mountain climbing, persons suffering from depression may face extreme challenges, but help, treatment, and relief from symptoms are attainable with appropriate assistance,&#8221; said Lawson.</p>
<p>This year, Lawson will attempt to summit Mt. Elbrus, the highest peak in Russia, and Mt. Vinson Massif, the highest peak in Antarctica.</p>

<p>There are some cases that people find a relief for depression by eating food or diet supplements that boost up the level of tryptophan.  Tryptophan is a kind of amino acid that is responsible in producing serotonin. </p>
<p>There is also a study that proves that carbohydrates is an anti depression supplements. It lessens the premenstrual syndrome for about three hours.   </p>
<p>Simply by eating a high density of carbohydrates can diminished the effect of depression in the body. Carbohydrates repair the imbalance in the ration of the specific fatty acid. Imbalances of fatty acids can affect the risk of depression.</p>
<p>There is also a study that shows an association between moderate consumption of caffeine drinks which lower the symptoms of depression; any excess can heighten the risk.   Proper diet also helps to lower the tendency of committing suicide, in which depression is one of the primary causes. In this study, the doctors have formulated that by drinking coffee or tea, you can reduce the effect of depression. </p>
<p>There are also certain habits that contain harmful substances that may trigger the symptoms of depression, like drinking alcoholic beverages, too much cigarette smoking, and drug overdose.</p>
<p>Vitamins and other food nutrients such as Vitamin B, Iodine, Vitamin C, Calcium, and Amino complex have been associated with some protection against depression.</p>
<p>Niacin is also a very important in the production of tryptophan that helps promotes Vitamin B3 and it has been found out that it regulates blood flow in order to avoid mental depression. </p>
<p>Vitamin B12 and calcium ingredients may help in depression that take place during the monthly menstrual period. In the year 2001, there was a study that proves that this vitamin can prevent postpartum depression. </p>
<p>Those kinds of food supplements and vitamins may enhance the effectiveness of SSRI and other antidepressant. </p>
<p>In order to avoid depression you must choose your food wisely and have a proper diet.</p>

While there is no cure for depression, treatment options are available that can help sufferers of depression lead normal, happy lives. </p>
<p>Depression changes the way in which a person is able to think, feel and view the world around them. These changes produce adverse effects on behavior directed towards others and towards one&#8217;s self. If a person experiences feelings of sadness or malaise which continue over a long period of time, it is likely that he or she suffers from some form of depression. Recognizing the symptoms of depression is the first step toward recovery. Those who feel they may have depression should consult their physician. </p>
<p>Once a diagnosis has been made and a treatment program initiated, the next step is to recognize the effect that depression has on the mental processes that govern one&#8217;s behavior. Understanding the mechanisms of depression can help people who are coping with this often debilitating illness. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Women, regardless of nationality or socioeconomic status, have a higher chance to have depression than men. The reasons for such higher chance appear to be a combination of biological and cultural factors.</p>
<p>Women&#8217;s Hormonal Variation and Life Phase</p>
<p>Extreme hormonal changes can trigger the reaction of emotional swings for all women. There are studies that show how the hormones can contribute in depression but the reason is not yet totally clear.</p>
<p>Female hormones undoubtedly play a big role in premenstrual dysphoria, postpartum depression, and the SAD moment. These forms of depression draw back or stop after the menopausal stage. </p>
<p>In early puberty a girl who reaches the age of 11 years old or younger are more prone   to experience depression during adolescence than those girls that are more matured.   </p>
<p>By the time of pre-menopausal, women between the ages of 20 and 45 are most at risk to get depression. Based on the record of the study, 34% of this age group are complaining of having symptoms of major depression. </p>
<p>Depression usually occurs around menopausal stage, it is the stage when the women&#8217;s hormonal secretion changes. Usually symptoms like lack of sleep, mood swing, hypertension, and loss of appetite are experienced. </p>
<p>Once the women pass into the postmenopausal stage, some of the studies show that the average depression scores are nearly as low as those women that are under premenopausal stage.  As a matter of fact, there are women cases that shows that after they had experienced menopause, they had also suffered from depression. One of the particular cause in that case is the seasonal changes.</p>
<p>There are other studies in United States that have reported that even grandmothers who shows care for their grandchildren and family, not considering the situation in which they work outside or at home, have a high risk for depression, other factors may be involved.</p>

Watching the wallow in their loneliness and sadness can cause a great rift between the two of you. <p>Knowing the causes of depression allows us to prevent such from happening to us or to our loved ones. </p>
<p>Many experts agree that depression can be hereditary, if a family has been known to have depression in their lineage; there are good chances that the following generation will have it as well.</p>
<p>People who do not have self confidence and has low self esteem are prone to depression as well. They do not find any positive aspects in their life that is why they have depression. People who are exposed to stress on a daily occurrence ca also be a candidate for depression. </p>
<p>Medical science has also recently discovered that depression is greatly associated with the physical well-being of a person. If a person has had a life threatening disease or an accident, depression follows suit. </p>
<p>A personal loss resulting to major emotional letdown can also trigger depression. A bad break-up, death, getting fired from a job, these are all reasons that can put a person into depression. </p>
<p>Research has shown that women are twice more likely to get depression. These are caused by the hormonal changes they experience. The stress women also experience in being a single parent, a working mother, their responsibilities both in the home and at the office are all possible to be a moving factor. </p>
<p>Men and women show different symptoms in depression. Men are usually irritable and impatient, that is why it is sometimes hard to diagnose if they do have depression. They are also more likely to keep it to themselves.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>An alarming truth: teen girls and boys are both at risk for suicide. Though many do not recognize suicide as a serious threat to a teenager&#8217;s well being, teen suicide is a major cause of death among American teenagers. According to the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH), about eight out of every 100,000 teenagers committed suicide in 2000.  Experts estimate that for every teen suicide death, there are 10 other teen suicide attempts. They also found out that almost one in five teens had thought about suicide. About one in six teens made plans on committing suicide and that one in twelve teens had attempted suicide in the last year.  As many as eight out of ten teenagers who commit suicide try to ask for help in some way before committing suicide, usually by seeing a doctor or psychiatrist shortly before the suicide attempt. </p>
<p>Teenage girls are more likely to attempt suicide, but teenage boys are four to five times more likely to die by suicide. Even though teenage girls make more attempts on their own lives than teenage boys, the boys are more likely to actually complete a suicide attempt. They do not allow for intervention, and are less likely to call for help through a suicide attempt, since there is often little opportunity to get males into treatment since their suicide completion rate is higher than that of females. </p>
<p>What are the major factors that influence or cause teenage suicide? It is said that depression is the most common cause of teenage suicide in the United States. It is depression that leads people to focus mostly on failures and disappointments, to emphasize the negative side of their situations, and to downplay their own capabilities or self-worth. </p>
<p>Depression or depressive disorders (unipolar depression) are mental illnesses characterized by a profound and persistent feelings of sadness or despair. Depressed persons are not interested anymore in things that were once pleasurable. The symptoms of depression include having difficulty with sleeping, loss of appetite, significant weight loss, and loss of rationality in making decisions.</p>
<p>Depression affects a persons thoughts in such a way that the person doesnt see that he or she can overcome a present problem. Its as if the depression puts a filter on the persons thinking and totally  distorts reality. For this reason, depressed people dont realize the gravity of pondering suicide as a means to resolve or escape a particular problem.  A teenager with depression may feel like theres no other way out of problems; no other escape from emotional pain, or no other way to communicate their desperate sadness.  Some teenagers actually think that attempting suicide is the only way to get their message across to their family or friends. Depression is a very serious condition that can ruin a teenager&#8217;s young life.  Young people with problems such as living in a violent or abusive environment, an unintended pregnancy, problems with parents, or a recent break-up with a boyfriend or girlfriend can suffer from emotional and psychological distress. </p>
<p>Further, teenagers who feel suicidal may not even realize that they are depressed. They may even be unaware of their depression.  At times, they can be so emotionally disturbed and see death as the only way out of their troubles. </p>
<p>We must realize that it is common for teenagers to have some thoughts about death. These thoughts can stem from a variety of causes, and can result in actual attempts on their own lives. Thus, it is very important to take suicide attempts seriously. Understanding that a teen suicide attempt is a call for help is essential to suicide prevention. </p>
<p>Counselors and therapists can provide emotional support and can help teens develop coping skills for dealing with problems. Constant communication, guidance, and abundant love from immediate family and friends is of major importance in dealing with a teenager&#8217;s with suicidal tendencies. Teens with severe emotional and psychological problems will also benefit by joining a support network for young people who are going through the same problems. When depression lifts because a teenager gets the proper therapy or treatment, the distorted thinking is cleared.  Depression need not take the life out of a  teenager.   With proper help and guidance, young people with problems can recover and find pleasure, energy, and hope again.</p>
